What Is CJC-1295?
CJC-1295 is a laboratory-made peptide that imitates growth hormone releasing hormone, the signal the brain uses to tell the pituitary gland to release growth hormone. Its special feature is how long it lasts.
Three Design Steps
- A shorter starting point. Natural GHRH has 44 amino acids, but the first 29 are enough to switch on its receptor. CJC-1295 starts from this fragment, called GHRH(1-29).
- Tougher against enzymes. Four of the 29 amino acids are swapped for others, which makes the chain harder for enzymes such as DPP-4 to cut.
- An anchor to albumin. An extra lysine at the end carries a chemical group called maleimidopropionamide. After injection it forms a permanent bond with albumin, a protein that circulates for weeks. ConjuChem called this approach Drug Affinity Complex, or DAC.
What Happens in the Body
Once attached to albumin, CJC-1295 keeps reaching GHRH receptors on growth hormone producing cells in the pituitary. Those cells release more growth hormone, and the liver responds by making more IGF-I. In a 2006 study the natural rhythm was kept: growth hormone still came in pulses, but the low points between pulses rose sharply.
With DAC or Without DAC?
In scientific papers, CJC-1295 means the albumin-binding molecule described above. Online, however, the same name is often used for the 29-amino-acid peptide with the four substitutions but no linker, which some sellers call Modified GRF(1-29). That version does not bind albumin and lasts a much shorter time. When a Norwegian doping lab analysed a product sold as CJC-1295 in 2009, it found a 29-amino-acid peptide.
This matters for anyone reading the research: the human data on this site concern the DAC version only.
Related Molecules
CJC-1295 is one of several GHRH analogues. Sermorelin is the unmodified 29-amino-acid fragment, and tesamorelin is a modified full-length version that the US FDA approved for excess abdominal fat in people with HIV. CJC-1295 differs from both because of its link to albumin.
Summary
- CJC-1295 is a modified GHRH(1-29) built to last for days.
- It bonds to albumin through its DAC linker.
- It increases growth hormone and IGF-I through the pituitary rather than replacing growth hormone.
- Products named "CJC-1295 without DAC" are a different, short-acting molecule.
